Concussions

So I wanted to write down everything I remember about last night (which is not much) before I start to forget... I figured this is the perfect place.

  • So I believe my first memory is talking with Casey in the car. I remember saying "Ok Casey, I'm think I'm coming to right now. What just happened?" Apparenlty I did this over and over again all night.
  • I remember one of the nurses at some point when we were in the ER say, " I know her, she can be my patient". It was a friend from highschool.
  • I KINDA remember some guy ask me to move from the gurney to the CT scan bed. I remember saying "if you make me lie down right now I'm going to throw up all over your machine". I remember him telling me no problem, and to lie down when I was ready.
  • I remember a nurse trying to put an IV in my arm. As she was doing it I told the nurse that I have a really hard arm to put an IV in. (when I had mono... the nurse told me that in her 30 years of nursing, she's never seen such a hard vien). Putting it in my arm didn't work out... so she had to put it in my hand.
  • I remember throwing up. A lot. And it hurt my stomach really bad. Casey told me that i'm a very violent thrower-upper (sorry- TMI).
  • I remember my head hurt SO bad, and the only way I could get it to feel better was that I laid it down on the rail to my gurney... and put pressure on the spot that hurt really bad. Apparently shortly after that I fell asleep.
  • I remember leaving... and the nurse wheeled me out into the FREEZING cold. I was still wearing my soccer shorts, shin guards and socks. I was shivering and pointed to the building where I work and told the nurse "that is where I work".

There are a few other bits and pieces... but that's pretty much it. It is so weird to me that I got hit, went to my appartment, went to the ER, had a CT scan, and was in the ER for four hours and I hardly remember anything about it.

On to more of how it happened... I was playing defender at our indoor soccer game. Apparenlty this jerk ( I only say jerk cause he was totally rude about it after and wouldn't even say sorry..or so Casey says) went to shoot the ball at the net. It had to of hit the right side of my face because there were soccer ball marks on my face. Also my jaw really hurts. My head hurts, and I have some chipped teeth. Oh and did I mention my head hurts? After the guy hit me and I fell to the floor, he still tried to play the ball and keep scoring to Casey, as the goalie, kicked the ball as hard as he could right at the guys's stomach. By then the ref was there and gave the guy a blue card and kicked him out of the game. Here's my two cents on him and not feeling the need to say sorry because I knew I was playing with guys: you a$$wipee. Yes, I take full responsibility to playing with guys, and I understand the risks I took by signing up. But on that same note- you are playing with GIRLS... so you should know better. Also you idiot, I was hit so hard I was knocked to the ground and my freaking teeth are chipped. Whether I was a guy or girl... I would have had a concussion.

So Casey's facebook status sums up well what happened from there:

casey did we win? casey what happened? casey where are we? casey why is my tooth chipped? casey my head hurts. concussions are the most annoying things in the world. i got asked each of these questions by Nicole Godfrey Houghton at least 10 times each in like 15 min. she is a trooper though, the nurse said it was one of the worst consussions she had ever seen. i am glad you are ok.

We tried going to the instacare but it was closed so we went to the ER. After a CT scan, they told us (well, mostly Casey... I still wasn't coherent) that everything looked normal. Apparently I was in quite a bit a pain cause the 8 miligrams of morphine they gave me didn't seem to help at all. They said my head would hurt for at least a few days... and I need a lot of sleep. On that note... I'm really tired and I'm gonna go rest. I will try to look at the positive and that I'm okay... and that only one Godfrey needs brain surgery this week ;).

Goals

So I've been thinking lately what my goals right now are. Here are a few that I thought of... they are in no particular order.

  1. Get better at soccer, especially ball handling
  2. Read my scriptures more often. A lot more often.
  3. Learn more about computers and how to fix system problems
  4. Lose weight (duh!)
  5. Find ways to affordably travel more
  6. Eat healthly, home cooked meals more often. Learn good recipes.
  7. Sew a few of my dresses so I can wear them.

Goal for today: TACKLE the huge pile on laundry in our closet.

Family Pictures

This past weekend Martin and his family came into town. Martin is going to have brain surgery next week at Duke in North Carolina, so before the surgery they made their way up here to spend some time with us. Friday night when we got to my parents we had the annual counsin's party. It was fun... we played games, ate refreshments, filmed my grandma answering questions, and did the annual white elephant swop. Casey made it out with a puzzle that he is super excited about doing. My favorite part of the night was when Andie Bailey (16-yr old second cousin) asked my grandma what they used to do for fun on dates back when she was dating. Without hesitating... she said MAKE OUT. Halarious, grandma!

Then on saturday we all went to the temple together. It was cool to have most of us there... just missing Matthew who is in Brazil on a mission. There is just something that makes going to the temple with your family special to me. After the temple we had a lunch at my parents and then just sorta hung out. Little Matthew (martin's son) could not be cutter. I thought he was so adorable, and pretty much followed him about all weekend. I'm pretty sure at one point I got a look from him that said "quit follwing me strange lady". On Saturday we also did "fake family pictures". My mom wanted some pictures to send to Matthew in Brazil so she wanted to take our pictures... but everyone (especially Julie) was calling them fake family pictures because Matthew wouldn't be IN them. So anyways... here are a few my mom was nice enough to send me.

Crime Shows

So recently I learned that I really like crime shows when I work out. I've made it a goal recently to bike for an hour, keeping my heart rate at 130 (fat-burning zone). It's been hard for me to stick to the whole hour... but kinda out of coincidence when I go to the gym, there is a chanel on the tv's that has a few crime shows back to back. I think the one I watch most is call "without a trace"... or something like that. The reason why these crime shows have been so great is because I will start watching them and then I have to know how they solve the case, so I stay. I stay my full hour cause I just have to know why that bride got kidnapped, or who killed the cook (as were the cases this week) Actually, quite a few times the show goes right from the end of one show to the beginning of the next show ( smart technique to get viewers to watch the next show... apparently it works) and I stay even longer cause I get caught up in the next show. So thank-you chanel 16, you are good for my health.

Dear soccer,

I'm kind of obsessed with you.

BYE to the C's until I see the sea.

So I feel like if I blog about this, hopefully it will hold me more accountable. Yesterday I started my "no sugar" diet again. I did this about two years ago now... I went about 6 months without eating ANY sweets. That's no cookies, cakes, cupcakes, chocolate, candy- nothing. And I LOVED IT. Not only did I feel better, but I got a thrill out of saying no to those not-so-good looking cookies that I got offered and ate just because I felt like I should because someone offered them to me, but each bite I took I could feel the calories packing on. There was only about 3 or 4 times in 6 months that there was something tempting enough to make the diet hard. The thing is, it's not normallyhard for me not to eat that kind of stuff. I am perfectly fine not eating most sweets... but unless I am mindful enough to pass it up, I eat them. My real tempation are the more salty things... like french fries. Ymm... how I love french fries ( unfortunately). So the plan is to be on this "sweets" diet until Casey and I go on a cruise. We have been wanting to since before we got married, and hopefully it will actually happen this summer. So bye bye to the C's until I see the Sea. :)

Condo

We have had some new additions to our place this Christmas!! On Christmas Casey surprised me with a sofa table I had been wanting... it's super cute and the perfect size. I have been looking for one for a really long time, but I could never find anything that I really loved until I came across this one at loveyourshelf.com.

Also this Christmas, Casey's brother was getting new couches and offered us these couches for $100. Not bad! They are extremely comfortable!!

One of my favorite gifts this Christmas was from Michele.... while we were in Canada in August Michele took pictures of different objects that look like letters... then she spelled out our name with it.... HOUGHTON.

COOL, HUH!!

Without even mentioning the many other wonderful gifts we got this year, we were spoiled!!
